Doula Support

 

 

RESEARCH has shown that having a doula present at a birth ;

  • Shortens first-time labour by an average of 2 hours
  • Decreases the chance of caesarean section by 50%
  • Decreases the need for pain medication
  • Helps fathers participate with confidence
  • Increases success in breastfeeding

An initial no-obligation interview is free at my home or yours, or online using zoom.  We can discuss how I can support you during your pregnancy, birth, and/or postnatally. 

 

Complete Birth Doula support package

 

Antenatal Visits: Minimum of two, but can be more as needed to establish our relationship, and discuss your concerns and fears, desires and wishes. I will provide 1-1 birth preparation sessions, which can include a full Hypnobirthing course or not, These sessions will be in your own home and will focus on birth physiology, and techniques to manage labour in a positive way whatever your birth choices are. I will also teach partners learn some new skills to use during labour and in the early hours and days with your new baby.  

I will provide information and ideas for you to formulate a birth plan or birth 'preferences' and we will discuss different birth scenarios and the options available to you to help you maintain control of your labour and birth of your baby. It will always be my main purpose to support you and aid you to make your own decisions and help you to achieve a more relaxed, enjoyable pregnancy and birth.

 

Continual Distance Support:  from the time of booking until a minimum of six weeks following the birth of your baby. so this is regular contact with me, as you need it, via phone, text, email or zoom. I am happy to be part of a Whatsapp group with parents and family for the period of time I am part of your support village. 

 

On Call: I shall be available to be with you in labour from your 38th week of pregnancy through to your 42nd. However if you go into labour outside of these dates I shall do my absolute best to be with you.

* For twin births I usually plan for my on-call to begin at 36 weeks, otherwise everything is the same as above* 

 

Attendance at Labour and Birth: I'll be available to support you throughout the length of your labour until after your baby is born and you are settled either on the postnatal ward in the case of a hospital birth or refreshed and resting in bed after a homebirth. If you have had a homebirth I will assist with the tidying up before I leave :) 

 

During labour: you can have the full use of my birth support kit which includes homeopathic remedies, aromatherapy oils, a TENS machine and birth pool (in the case of a homebirth). I will also be able to offer you massage as a technique to relax and support you to try different methods/positions for comfort, pain relief and/or birth of your baby, and if you're using LBC hypnobirthing, I can support you with this also. 

 

Minimum of two Postnatal visits: where we can debrief your birth and see how you and baby are getting on. This can either be while you are still in hospital or once you are home (or both!). These visits can be extended on an ad-hoc basis for as long as you need if you feel you would benefit from some extra support at this time. 

 

COST:  £2500 for full Birth Doula package. 

I am always happy to negotiate fees and accept instalment plans as I appreciate that preparing for a new baby can be financially demanding.    

 

EXTRAS WHICH CAN BE INCLUDED IF REQUIRED: 

 

PLACENTAL ENCAPSULATION: I am happy to offer placental encapsulation to my birth clients with an additional fee of £50.

CLOSING-THE-BONES: Available for birth clients during one of their extended postnatal sessions at no additional charge. 

BIRTH POOL: I have a La Bassine birth pool clients can use for a home birth (you will just need to purchase a new hose and liner for your use)

HYPNOBIRTHING COURSE: A full 'Little Birth company' course can be included if required as part of the full birth Doula package.

MINDFUL BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT AND MATERIALS: Can be included in postnatal support sessions for birth clients at no additional charge.

 

 

 


 

Post Natal Doula Care package

 

My goal would be to support new parents and baby by helping to make the transition to parenthood a smooth and treasured time for the whole family. My aim at all times will be to inform, nurture, and support unconditionally - this is my privilege as your Doula! I would support you until you feel happy, confident and coping well, and of course I will always be available for top-ups as and when you feel it's needed, and will be available by telephone/email for as long as required. I usually only offer postnatal support to birth clients, but would consider local support to help you get through a difficult time, please do ask if you feel I can help and if I am unable to then I shall help you find another Doula who can.

 

I offer an hourly rate with a minimum of two hours a day and can offer a discounted rate for longer term booking of 20 hours or more.

 

COST: £50 pr hour

 

INCLUSIVE SUPPORT DURING POSTNATAL SESSIONS (IF REQUIRED):

 

INFANT FEEDING SUPPORT: However you are feeding your baby I can support you. whether you are breastfeeding and would like to explore mindful breastfeeding skills or pumping, formula feeding or both then I'm happy to support you.

 

BABY CARE: To help you develop skills and confidence to care for your own baby with a good understanding of baby development and responsive parenting. with evidence based knowledge of normal infant sleep and safe practice and the use of slings/wraps for baby care during the day and while out and about. I am happy to look after baby for a while for new parents to have a sleep and some time for self-care as well. 

 

HOUSEWORK: If required I can give the house a tidy, put some washing on/out, run the hoover over and a few bits around the house to help out. 

 

COOKING: As long as you provide the materials (or cover the cost of them) then I am more than happy and competent to cooks some nourishing meals for the family. I am happy to cook meat, fish or vegetarian. or if its just a few sandwiches or soup that you'd like (or maybe a lovely cake or two!) then I'm absolutely here for you! 

 

 

 

 


Breastfeeding/infant feeding support

 

I can provide Breastfeeding, formula feeding and combi feeding support with my experience of feeding my own children, supporting new mothers as their Doula and my training with the Mindful Breastfeeding school. This can be in person, at your home or via zoom.
